Hello there!

You have a very interesting web page on Rocky Point park!   It brought back a lot of memories for me.  I use to be the Director Of Operations for Rocky Point for over 20 years and left there just a couple of years before they shut down.  Thanks for bringing back such nice memories.

As a former employee at Rocky point It's sad to see the recent
photo's of the park.
I was a crew chief in the rides dept. for five season's. It's cool to
see such a huge
response from so many people. I'm glad I got the chance to meet so
many people. We had a big crew and partied alot, although I can't
remember any in particular...! Just want to say thanks for this great
website!   SHOUT OUTS TO: John E, Pat W, Shawn P, Amy, and
last but not least CLAUDIA C....!

I'm at work and I never have anything to do so I occupy myself by looking at stuff about how Rhode Island used to be. I've lived in Rhode Island my whole life and although I was only about 7 when the park closed I still have many wonderful memories of the park and the rides. When I was about 4 I went on the corkscrew for the first time. I remember everyone thought that my dad and I were crazy, him for letting me go on and me for wanting to. We used to go to the park with my neighbors and they had a boy who was a year older than me and I would always go on all the rides but he wouldn't. I remember one time I finally got him to go on the spider ride and he ate clam cakes right before it, lets just say he ran off that ride behind the little red building and stayed there for a while. I've driven down to rocky point a few times but I never went in, I was planning on it but now that they took the sign down and everything I don't really know if theres a point, I'll probably still end up going though and when I do I'll send you some pictures :) Thanks for the site

Yes-
I still do love Rocky Point!!
People tell me.."It's gone, get over it"..but I can't. That is part of
my childhood and teenage years that still live on in my heart.
It's such a shame to see recent pictures of that Park, and it makes the
statement true, that it really is gone. But, I still don't want to
believe it... Went to see "You Must Be This Tall" last Friday night, and it is a movie
to definitely see if Rocky Point still holds a place in your heart. The
movie takes you from the very first clams eaten on the beachfront, all
the way to the parks demise in 1996, when all the rides were auctioned off.
There is also an eerie tale about the Viking that stood atop of the
House of Horrors. Read the comic book, and hear it  for yourself. Was
that House of Horrors really haunted???
I had gone there in February of 1996, to get some final pictures of the
park. I even got a couple of souveniers, but I should have taken lots more.
I found a Rocky Point baseball cap hanging on the flume, and a "Ride
Being Serviced" sign. If I would've known that a couple of years later,
when opened one year for "Halloweenland" that people ravished the park,
and grabbed whatever they could, I would've done the same the day I was
there, completely alone. There are so many people out there, I'm finding out, that miss the park
as much as I do. Too bad we could'nt have all chipped in together to pay the back taxes
owed on the property to save the park!!! Rocky Point will still live on in my soul forever, and it's nice to know
there are pictures and websites out there to keep our childhood memories
alive!!!
Thanks!!!

Greetings!

First of all, let me say that I love your page. I grew up near Rocky Point and spent much
of my formative years there. You have an impressive amount of content and I currently link
to your site because there's little
chance my own Rocky Point page will grow to such an extent.
I host a site that centers on defunct parks of Southeastern New England (CT, MA, and RI).
We just moved to a new server and I was hoping you could link up to us. Our address is
http://www.defunctnewengland.com
Many thanks for maintaining such a great site. Keep up the good work. If you have any
items you'd care to share, please pass them on!

Hi,  I worked there in 1981-81 running rides, then
again in  the early 90's airbrushing t-shirts in
front of the souvenir shop with Rudy-owner. I also
did a few games and stuff for the picture taking guy
across from the souvenir shop and did the huge wall
on the ben and jerry's ice cream building, its was
all loony tunes I airbrushed on the wall, here's a
pic of the wall, if I can find more of the games and
stuff I will mail them, I also have a roll of film I
found on a ride noone came back for in the 80's of
pics in the park, I will send them toyou as well
when I find it. Thanks again for bringing back
memories I loved, it makes me feel good and sad , I
love rocky point, and wish I could go back and do it
all again :)

Hello, My name is Pat and i'll make my story as breif as possible.

On my way home from work today out of no where I wondered " Is there any

known website of the late 'n' great Rocky Point?"  Well I was totally stoked to

see there was!!!!!!  And I gotta say it is a very good site!!! Those to young to remember can definitley learn a bit from your site alone, not to mention the useful links

provided!!!! Kudos to great people like you!!!!!!! Rocky Point was a special place for me,

my family, and about ten thousand other people in our little "big" state!!!!!

Late last summer, me and my girlfreind snuck inside to see what it looked like (she'd been

in there about two summers ago; took good pics) and was amazed by how my memmories

came back to me!!!  As a young boy, going there since the late 70's, 80's and 90's, I couldn't help but realize how short the walk down the main road was! That road as a kid seemed too long from the backseat of my mums car looking to my right, saying to my older sister " If I'm tall enuff this year, will you take me on that Ride?" (The Flume). Whatta' time warp!!! And I remember on mt 8th birthday my godfather took me and my sister there and really wanting to go on the new roller coaster that was built(CORKSCREW) but my godfather didn't want to pay the additional fee ( as you remember) so we went on the Cyclone instead!!  Well back to last summer. Where do ya think me and my girlfriend headed? That's right, the

old FunHouse!!! The towers had collapsed (sad sight) due to our New England weather conditions, but was able to sneek inside!!  I was trying to get myself up the catwalk but chickened out. Was I afraid of heights? No, just the big fat scary lady that holds residency up there!!!  And was totally stoked to see the old cars lined up the tracks!!!

Our trip was short and wanted to go back later, but as we all know some stupid A@##!

had to set that fire and ruined it for future R.P. enthusiests. Rocky Point was OUR park!!

It was no Six Flags, but it was OURS!! It will be sadly missed.

I read were you say thanx to those who submit storeis to the site, I just wanted to THANK YOU for putting this page together. Awesome job guys!!!!!!

Sorry if my story wasn't as breif as I mentioned, I couldn't help myself. I'm sure you understand!!!!!

PAT

Thank you for a walk down memory lane. I looked up your site when
looking for something with a Rhode Island flavor to paint. I spent several
New Year's at the paladium and of course, swam in the salt water pool and
rode the rides. Maryanne in Warwick

Hi there,

I still love rocky point too!  I'm 38 years old and I can still
 remember
going there as a kid so vividly.  What is left of the rides, anything?
  I
would love to take a walk through there but I know it's monitored by
 the
police/security.  What fond memories I have.  It's so sad the this RI
 icon
is nothing now, thrown away as if it was never anything to anybody.  So
 many
wonderful memories.  I was looking at all the web sites and it made me
 so
happy to see the pictures of when it was thriving.  Thanks for letting
 me
voice my opinion.....Kerri

I was a Ride operator at Rocky Point Park From 1976-1986 I operated most every ride though the "HOUSE OF HORRORS" was a staple along with the "SKOOTERS" it's very sad how Rocky Point Park died but at least I have my memories and the park will be brought back to life one final time September 7TH 2007 At The Premier of "YOU MUST BE THIS TALL".I love your website as I love anything that keeps the memory of the park alive. As for your DVD how does it differ from the one offered by 401graphics.Thank you for your time,Howie Bergel.

Thank you so much for taking the photos of my beloved Rocky Point.  I spent many happy times there in my childhood during the mid 50's to mid 60's.  I too loved the shore dinner hall and to this day consider the chowder the best ever.  The place was so popular that we routinely waited in line to get in to eat.  Thinking about it from an adult perspective I wonder what my parents were thinking stuffing us kids with food just before letting us loose on the rides.  Most of the time I would end up loosing my dinner after the Tilt A Whirl.  Spinning was never a good idea on a full stomach !

Most of the time my family would go with another family so there were a lot of kids who shared the adventure of Rocky Point.  On Weds. , I believe, it cost $1.00 for a hand stamp that allowed us to ride all the rides all evening !!  The roller coaster was always a favorite since it scared the pants off most of us kids but we couldn't get enough of it.  The Fun House and the House of Horrors was always on the schedule.  We would never miss the carousel and loved reaching out for the rings even when we were not big enough to get there. What a thrill it was to be there and how lucky we were to have parents willing to put up with all of us and try and keep tabs on all us kids for a evening of fun and excitement.

Do you remember the pool with the three tiered diving board.  I was too timid to go to the top but loved the lower ones.  As a child I can remember admiring the "big kids" who had the confidence and guts to go off the top.  A pool in those days was a real treat and one that had salt water was a rare find to be sure.

Although we were full of energy while running around the amusement park catching all the rides, the ride home was usually very quiet.  All kids were asleep before the car left the gates.

I had no idea I'd be back at Rocky Point this afternoon reliving those wonderful times.  I am certain I have pictures of us at the park somewhere.  I just might go looking for them !!!

You made my day especially happy with your photos.  Thanks again.

Hello, I learned a couple of years back that the park had closed.  I moved from Rhode
Island shortly after I graduated high school in 1979. I graduated from Smithfield High
but most of my years were spent in Warwick.  I remember when I was old enough to ride
a 10 speed bike and I could go where I wanted, I would ride down to the park
sometimes with a friend.  If we had the money we would get the POP bracelet for the
day, for anyone who does not know, it stands for "pay one price" and it was $3.75 to
ride all the rides in the park.  This was before the Musik Express and the Flume
built, when the express first went in it cost an extra quarter to go on it.  I
remember a day when a buddy and I cleaned house on the 10 cent wheel where the prize
was in candy bars.  We both hit the red slot a couple of times and we spent most of
the rest of the day eating candy bars down at the beach and going home with quite the
stomach ache.  One time 4 of us were down at the park and we headed for the
Flume.  It was so much fun to see if you could catch anyone to close to the
fence and soak them when you hit the bottom of the
slide.  We were put into the car with the 2 heaviest guys in back, but we managed to
switch seats and not get caught at it, we got a few people wet that day.  If anyone
remembers the mobile aquarium that was there in the summer of '76 (might have been 77)
over by the swimming pool, I got to work there that summer helping feed the fish and
keeping the place clean, my dad got me the job.  I have no pictures at all of the park
except for a couple of my dad taken during a lobster eating contest some time in the 60's.
If anyone lives close enough to grab a shingle or any other chunk of the place when
they finally demolish the place, I would gladly pay the shipping to have a piece of
the place to put on the shelf.  I really would like to get back to see RI again
sometime and while I am there pick up a Del's lemonade (if they are still around)
Thank you for the memories, I am sure I will be
back often to see the pictures of the old park.

I love your site man. Stirred up a lot of emotions in me. I’m 42 now and when I was a kid my parents took me to Rocky Point countless times. I grew up in Cranston, down the street from Cranston drive-in so it was only about a 30 minute ride. It makes me sad to see how the park looks today. I saw a picture on the front page of the Prov-Journal yesterday which sparked me to see what was online about it.

I wish I had pictures to send you. That was a great time in my life. Thanks for taking the time to keep such a good site.

Hi all Rocky Point lovers,

When I was young it would be a summer event to go to Rocky Point to
take in the rides, have some clam fritters and clam chowder. We made it a
point to get there when the park opened and we would leave about an hour or
so before the park would close. I loved all the rides, especially the flume. It's such a shame that
parks like Six Flags is putting the smaller parks out of business. I brought
my 2 young children to Six Flags last year and they were very disappointed
with the park because all theyhad were mostly rollercoasters and not many
ride for the young children. Rocky point had rides for everyone, young and
old. It was truly a family amusement park. It's sad that our children will
never be able to have the Rocky Point experience. We will all deeply miss
Rocky Point. Thanks for the memories.

I saw your web site and I cant tell you how nice it was.  I was born and raised in Providence and always loved going to RockyPoint on the weekends. I have such wonderful memories of it. We even bought extra clam cakes and chowder to take home with us. After I got married we moved to Connecticut. So it wasn't easy to get to but, After my divorce I would pack up the kids on a Sunday and take them to Rocky Point for the day, they grew up loving it as much as me. And yes we brought home chowder and cakes. I was shocked to learn of its closing, how could they do that to an ICON of the area, I have learned there are condos there now.. How Sad to think that future generations wont be able to enjoy it.  I have now remarried and have moved to Florida, but my children still live in CT, and they wish they could take their kids there.  I was especially happy to see the recipes for the chowder and clam cakes on the site. YOU BET I WILL MAKE THEM.

Thanks again for bringing back those wonderful memories.

Hello. I was surfing the web to see if Rocky Point had a website, because I heard they were openning back up, but all I saw was the sad pictures of the park falling apart. I am 25 years old now, and since I was in a carriage, my parents took me to Rocky Point every summer until they closed. I would do anything to have them open again. I am so hurt inside to see the horrid pictures of the wasted park. I too, have many memories there. It's kind of funny, because I have 1000's of stuffed animals, and do you know, I could pick out every one that I got at Rocky Point? I was too young to have taken one of the brocures like you posted your pictures from on your site, but I wish I had one of my own right now. I would frame it. It makes me want to cry to think about Rocky Point - I miss it so much! I'm sorry if I sound silly, but it was my favorite place to go. I would take Rocky Point over Disney World or Six Flags any day! I remember being in my baby carriage and looking at the animals in those big, round, colorful cages. And I remember being afraid of the double ferris wheel as a kid. I also remember the Rock 'n Roll hurting you when they strapped you in since it was so tight. I'm sorry if I've bored you at all, I just find it great to have found another person so enthusiastic about Rocky Point. If they ever re-open, I will be there waiting on openning day! Thanks for your time.

Nice site.  I used to go to Rocky Point during the summer when I was about 5-10 years old.  It was the greatest place on earth for me.  I just graduated from H.S. and thought maybe I could go back with some friends an I learned its gone the other day.  8 years... amazing.  It was a fun place.
